Vladimir Domničev
Vladimir Domničev was born in Ivanovo, Russia. He studied at the Academy of Engineering and Technology in Russia, where he obtained a degree in engineering and later also a Candidate of Sciences degree. Although he devoted his professional life to science and technology, he had been drawn to art from an early age. He gained his first artistic experience in his hometown under the guidance of the painter Fedorov. During his studies, he came into direct contact with Moscow’s avant-garde artists, who significantly influenced his artistic thinking. At the turn of the millennium, he left Russia and settled in Prague, which has become a permanent source of motifs and inspiration. He later obtained Czech citizenship and presented his work in several exhibitions. His works are represented in private collections in the Czech Republic and abroad. Domničev’s painting moves between impressionistic sensitivity to colour and light and an expressive artistic gesture. His work reflects an admiration for prominent figures of modern art, such as Pierre-Auguste Renoir or Jackson Pollock. The paintings capture not only the world around but also the emotions and internal states it evokes. He works with paint in several different ways - he applies it, builds it up in layers, spreads it out, and in places also wipes or scrapes it away. This creates a distinctive surface and a striking painterly dynamism which lend his paintings an unmistakable character.
