About artwork:

The identical shapes symbolize the equality of many individuals in a society before the law. The equal spacing creates the impression that each person must take responsibility for themselves. The form of the figures is the most reduced outline of a human, where no characteristic—not even gender—is recognizable. Yet, all figures differ slightly from one another. Although the focus of the painting is on the self, the subject in the center, which creates a closer and wider environment of fellow humans, it makes clear that this does not matter: From the viewer's perspective, from the state's perspective, and from society's perspective, this self is just one person among many. It may shine brighter or appear more inconspicuous, but before the law, that makes no difference.
