Wit Pichurski

Wit Pichurski was born in 1975 in Opole. From 1990 to 1995, he studied at the Secondary School of Fine Arts in Opole. In 2000, he graduated with honours from the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow. Nine years later, he obtained the Doctorate in postgraduate studies in Krakow. Currently, he works as an associate professor at the Faculty of Arts in Opole. He passes on his experience to the young generation of artists. Besides sculpture, he also focuses on painting, drawing and ceramics. Wit Pichurski belongs among the leading personalities in modern Polish sculpture. Predominantly, the main focus of his works is the man. Through references to the spiritual, philosophical or sensual sphere of our very existence, he tries to reveal the complexity of human nature and find the balance. He utilises a variety of materials such as stone, wood, bronze or acrylic resin. According to him, different materials assembled together create harmony and show the world as it is today. He creates imaginative pieces of art, figuratively stylised, close to symbolism, as well as allegorical or synthetic. Wit Pichurski is not only an excellent sculptor but also a painter who projects his colourful soul on canvas and into his sculptures. He tries to capture the human being, day-to-day reality we experience, as well as the endless opening of space or knowledge of our own consciousness. Wit Pichurski actively participates in artistic life, participating in plein-air painting events, exhibitions, symposia and competitions. He regularly exhibits his work not only in Poland but also abroad, and his pieces of art are kept in private and public collections. He is the author and co-author of several important monuments that commemorate the history of the Polish city of Opole.
