Norbert Judt

Norbert Judt was born on 2 February 1966 in Bratislava. His artistic language was developed independently. His early work was influenced by a strong affinity for fantasy literature, the surrealism of Salvador Dalí, and new figuration, represented, for example, by Július Jakoby and Milan Paštéka. However, Judt’s work does not align with any specific artistic movement, school or group. At the centre of his work is the human figure and an attempt to look beneath the visible surface of human existence. Elongated figures, mysterious faces reminiscent of masks, birds, horses, hot-air balloons, or fragments of architecture enter into dreamlike compositions at the intersection of reality, memory, and fantasy. Individual motifs do not form an unambiguous story; rather, they open a space for proper interpretation and reflection on human existence. Norbert Judt works primarily in drawing and painting. His work is characterised by subdued, mainly earthy colours, which are enlivened by deep blue tones, light areas and golden accents. Drawing and colour intertwine in his paintings, creating distinctive, symbolic worlds.
